Siskiyou 135 Sled Dog Races area project of the SSDSA  a 501c6 non-profit organization.  The Siskiyou 135 Sled Dog Races are held under a Special Use Permit from the U.S. Forest Service on a non-discriminatory basis.

Siskiyou 135 is now called the Siskiyou 220!!!
An Iditarod Qualifier!

The SSDSA is proud to announce that the Siskiyou Sled Dog Races Distance Class race has been accepted as an Official Iditarod Qualifying Race in 2009.   The Siskiyou 135 Mile Sled Dog Race will now be known as the Siskiyou 220!  The race distance traveled will be increased to 220 miles to fullfill Iditarod qualifications.  Our request passed the Race Rules Committee and the Iditarod Board on the 30th of May.  The 2009 Siskiyou Sled Dog Races will be held from January 23rd through 25th, 2009.  The 220 mile distance race will begin on Friday after the Vet check and ending Sunday.  This will be California's first Iditarod qualifying event.  Sprint team race competitions will be held throughout the days of the 24th and 25th.

We would like to also take this opportunity to thank the 2008 Siskiyou 135 Sled Dog Race sponsors for their unwavering support.  Unfortunately, due to blown-down trees on the trail, we had to cancel the 2008 race.  Our sponsors have been very generous in allowing us to hold over their sponsorships for the 2009 race.  We have great news on the 2009 race. . .

Congratulations to everyone.  It has taken a group effort for us to get to this point.

Sincerely, Pat Campbell - SSDSA Director

FREE KIDS RIDES DAY A SUCCESS - March 30th
Snow Dogs give Thanks! The Siskiyou Snow Dog Sporting Association would like to extend our deepest appreciation and thanks to all of our volunteers and sponsors for another successful, Free Kids Dogsled Rides held on March 30th, 2008.  We gave free rides to over 70 (mostly local) children, ages 4 to 10 years of age, who might not normally have the opportunity to experience the excitement of a real dogsled ride.  It is really fun for us as an organization to see the smiling faces of all the kids as they come back in from their ride.  We look forward each year to giving children the opportunity to experience to this facinating sport.

A huge thanks goes out to Dogsled Express for once again donating the time, resources and dog teams to offer so freely this unique educational adventure to our local children.  Special Thanks to Rick Cook for donating his time and team for the day and to the Yreka Kiwanis Club for it's second year as a major supporter of the annual Free Kids Ride Day by defraying the costs of event insurance and traveling mushers.   More thanks go out to the USDA Shasta Trinity National Forest, for allowing the event to be held on their trail system, the Grenada 4-H Club who supplied snacks and drinks to the public, to Raley’s for providing funding for snacks and supplies, and to all of the volunteers who helped with team handling, parking, T-shirt sales and guest services.

To everyone who's attended any of our racing or educational events, and to all our members, volunteers and sponsors. . . Thanks!
